Bárbara Monteiro graduated in journalism from the Escola Superior de Comunicação Social, where she studied photojournalism. She attended the studio photography workshop run by the Portuguese Institute of Photography (IPF) in 2013. She took part in the portrait photography masterclass with photographer Micmojo in 2015 and participated in the NARRATIVA 2023/2024 masterclass with photographer Mário Cruz.
Since 2014 she has been working in photography in a wide variety of areas, collaborating with associations and media such as Gerador, El Salto or the Portuguese Communications Association and companies such as BMW, Galp, Fidelidade, Lisnave, architecture and communications offices, among others.
In parallel, she develops independent personal projects and is a member of NARRATIVA Collective since 2024. 
In 2023 she started the ongoing project THIS IS HEAVEN, which was highlighted in 2024 by #GreifGuestRoom and was a finalist in the Artacca Prize 2024 and at Sony International Awards in 2025.
